22 days, 440km, 1100 sand dunes all while raising funds and bringing awareness to Jenny’s Place who assist women and children escaping domestic violence and at risk of homelessness.

This Trek for Jenny’s Place is going to be a cracker of a trip. It will have it’s moments when you think “what am I doing here” and then there will be the golden ones when you are sitting on top of a dune, full moon at sunset and not a soul in sight! It will be a trip of surprises and adventures.

Day 1 Continued - (Monday, 15 August)

After 3 hours of travelling in the vehicles we arrived at Kulgera Road House. We had a quick bite to eat, took some pics of the interesting things hanging from the roof (hundreds of ladies bras)and were on our way.

Next stop was Mt Dare.  The roads were rough gravel and red dust/dirt so it was a pretty bumpy ride.  Just before we got there we came around the corner to see Paddy’s vehicle pulled up - we were the second vehicle.  Next to where they pulled up was an overturned vehicle.  It had obviously been there for a while and all its tyres were gone. But as we peered over at it we could see someone at the back of it.  Em said “someone must be scavenging” but all of a sudden Ali popped her head up - she had had an urgent call of nature !!

5 minutes later we arrived at the Mt Dare Road house and we all had a drink and pie.  We have learnt to look up when we go into these outback places - this one had hundreds of stubby holders hanging from the ceiling and lots of shirts and hats people had left there.  A lovely couple gave us a $50 donation.  Everyone is so shocked when we tell them we are walking across the Desert. So many people out here are driving across it but they can’t believe we would walk it.

We jumped back in the cars and hit the rough road again for the next 70 kms into Dalhousie Springs arriving finally about 4.30 pm

We helped unpack the vehicles and while we set up our tents, Paddy, Ken, Alex and Kim boiled the kettle and got set up.

Several of the gang went straight to the hot springs for a swim.  It was cold when they got out but said it was worth it.  They dried off, put on warm clothes and we all made sandwiches for dinner as it was getting dark.  The mozzies started to really get bad so by 7.30 pm we were all in out tents reading our books to escape the mozzies.

That’s it for today
