22 days, 440km, 1100 sand dunes all while raising funds and bringing awareness to Jenny’s Place who assist women and children escaping domestic violence and at risk of homelessness.

This Trek for Jenny’s Place is going to be a cracker of a trip. It will have it’s moments when you think “what am I doing here” and then there will be the golden ones when you are sitting on top of a dune, full moon at sunset and not a soul in sight! It will be a trip of surprises and adventures.

Day 3 - (Wednesday, 17 August)

When we woke this morning it was zero degrees and very fresh.  We all got up and had a cuppa and some breakfast.

We then packed up our tents, bags and camp sites and started out for Day 1 of walking.   We had 16 km to walk to our camp site today.  It warmed up pretty quickly and it was actually quite windy which Paddy says is not unusual for out here.  Kim, one of our support crew members, also walked today and Paddy, Alex and Ken all went on ahead to set up camp.

We left camp at 7.45 am and arrived into our next camp around 12 noon after doing our 16 kms.   One of the easy days of the trip! No sand dunes to climb today but plenty of sand on the track we had to follow.

As we rounded the last corner we spotted the camp and were very glad to see Paddy and crew.   They had the kettle boiling and lunch waiting.

After lunch we put up our tents and set up for the night.  The afternoon was spent talking, napping and getting organised for tomorrow.

Tonight Paddy cooked spaghetti bol with lots of veggies and a damper cooked in the hot coals in the camp oven.  It was the best!

After dinner we all sat around the camp fire and chatted until about 7.30 pm when we all went to bed.

Our support crew are a lovely bunch.

Ken who has been nicknamed “Uncle Ken”.  He is a quite unassuming camel guy with lots of stories and a great smile. He also has a stash of Coke Zero that I am working on him to share with me!

Kim (Kimberley as we have nicknamed her to differentiate from our Kim), is a lovely lady.   She only knew 2 weeks before we left that she was coming with us but is still keen to do some walking with us. She fusses over us all helping with food, cups of tea and putting up tents.

Alex is the youngest at about 32.  He keeps us all entertained with his fun facts on just about everything !

Tomorrow we need to walk around 22 kms.

We are on the lookout to see some camels.

Until Tomorrow,Donna x
