22 days, 440km, 1100 sand dunes all while raising funds and bringing awareness to Jenny’s Place who assist women and children escaping domestic violence and at risk of homelessness.

This Trek for Jenny’s Place is going to be a cracker of a trip. It will have it’s moments when you think “what am I doing here” and then there will be the golden ones when you are sitting on top of a dune, full moon at sunset and not a soul in sight! It will be a trip of surprises and adventures.

Day 5 - (Friday, 19th August)

Wow what a night !  Finally we got a bit of sleep after the wild winds finally subsided.   We awoke to so much sand and red dirt in our tents - everything was covered - our bags, clothes, sleep mats and pillows.  Not to mention how much sandy grit was on our face and skin.

There was lots of talk about last night’s events as we all emerged from our tents to have breakfast.  We found out Lisa had to get into the car to sleep as her fly had blown off and Kim’s tent pole broke so she slept in her sleeping bag with her jacket over her head out on a tarp!

We couldn’t believe how wild the wind was and how quickly it came.  It was confirmed the wind was at 100kms/hour!

After we packed up we all headed out about 8.15 am and started walking.  We had another 22 kms to do today but it was nowhere as hot as it was yesterday which we were very grateful for.

It is just so sparse out here - just desert, sand and red dirt for as far as the eye can see.  We saw a couple of wild emus this morning.

After 8 kms we had a little morning tea break - several people in their 4WDS stopped to see what the heck we were doing out here and we collected $110 in donations.   Around 13 kms we spotted Paddy and the crew set up with lunch waiting for us. We had a 40 minute break and got some food and tea and coffee into us and got to rest our feet for a bit.

We then took off for our 10 km hike into camp.  We arrived in about 3 pm after completing our 22 kms.

Tonight’s dinner was chilli con carne and damper.  Our meals have been so good and really fuelled us for the next day. We had a camp fire tonight but everyone was pretty tired so we went to bed fairly early.

Paddy has let us know that we start to hit the sand dunes tomorrow so we are not sure what to expect.

We did 36,356 steps today.  Besides some blisters most peoples feet are holding up well so far.
The camels are hiding !

Until tomorrow
