22 days, 440km, 1100 sand dunes all while raising funds and bringing awareness to Jenny’s Place who assist women and children escaping domestic violence and at risk of homelessness.

This Trek for Jenny’s Place is going to be a cracker of a trip. It will have it’s moments when you think “what am I doing here” and then there will be the golden ones when you are sitting on top of a dune, full moon at sunset and not a soul in sight! It will be a trip of surprises and adventures.

Day 6 - (Saturday, 20 August)

Last night was the stillest night and after the night befores crazy wind, we all slept so well.  It was a really cold night and very cold when we got up for our cuppa and breakfast.

Today we set out about 7.45 am and had 8.5 km to walk to Purni Bore (part of the French line) for lunch at 10.30 am. We headed off again after a 45 minute break and had another 12 kms to walk to finish today.  A group of three vehicles stopped and took photos of us - they were so surprised we were out there and they gave us a $150 donation.  All up today we raised $245.00.   It’s a lovely distraction when a vehicle pulls up to chat to us.  They often ask us if we need anything - Band-Aid’s, food, drinks, etc

When we got into camp, Paddy had the kettle boiling waiting for us.  We all crashed into the seats the amazing support crew set up and enjoyed a cuppa while chatting about the day.   It had gotten quite hot after our lunch break but tomorrow is supposed to be hotter.

Paddy has told us we are currently 10 kms away from being a quarter of the way there!

Em has truly taken to her surroundings and is sleeping outside in a swag enjoying the night stars rather than having a tent.

Because she doesn’t have to pull down a tent of a morning she rolls all our mattresses up for us.  Then of an afternoon when we are putting up tents, everyone helps each other and Em runs around delivering our sleeping mats and bags to us.   Everyone helps each other so much and Paddy and the crew can’t believe how well we all get on together.

Tonight for dinner Paddy cooked us chipolates, potato, sweet potato, carrot and cauliflower and of course our favourite - damper.   We are being fed so well.

Today we have done 33,265 steps.  Several of us are attending to blisters, but so far everyone is still managing them.

Until tomorrow

Donna
