22 days, 440km, 1100 sand dunes all while raising funds and bringing awareness to Jenny’s Place who assist women and children escaping domestic violence and at risk of homelessness.

This Trek for Jenny’s Place is going to be a cracker of a trip. It will have it’s moments when you think “what am I doing here” and then there will be the golden ones when you are sitting on top of a dune, full moon at sunset and not a soul in sight! It will be a trip of surprises and adventures.

Day 10 - (Wednesday, 24 August)

It was absolutely freezing when we woke this morning.  It had been a very still night and we all slept so well and it was tough getting out of bed today.  But we did and made our way over to get a cuppa and breakfast to warm us up.  We all had lots of layers and our big jackets on. Turns out it was -5 degrees.

Once we started rolling mats, pulling down tents and carrying bags we warmed up a little.

We need to average 21-22 kms a day to get to the end on time but today our aim was to do a little more as the weather forecast is for a few very hot days coming up and the heat can be quiet unbearable.

We have our daily quizzical question to get our brains ticking over, we have Ali’s book club, we sing, chat, play games to pass the time.  A highlight is when a 4WD comes along and stops to chat to us.  Everyone is just so amazed at what we are doing and many of them have been very generous to us with donations.

We did see Grant Denyer out here with a mate on their bikes yesterday and they said they were coming back our way and would bring us some snickers, but so far we haven’t seen them again!

We ended up doing our biggest walk today and conquered 24.3 kms over 7 and 3/4 hours which was 43,500 steps!

We were very glad when Mumma let us know the camp site was just over another few dunes on the right.

Mumma is so amazing - she has not had one blister, ache or pain and when she spots camp on the horizon because she is so far out in front, she walks back to tell all of us - including F Troop who are always last in each day.   She is incredible and we are all so grateful when she does it as we know we are nearly there.

Today we had Rogan Josh and damper for dinner- we really enjoy our dinners where we get to sit around the camp fire and debrief about the day with Paddy and the crew.

Uncle Ken is so dry and quick witted and he and Paddy have so many stories.

Still no camel sightings today but we did see a dingo.

We had all settled into bed and were drifting off to sleep when we once again heard someone walking around the camp site.  We presumed it was Kim doing her nightly toilet wander.  Next thing we hear a tent zipper and Kim say “oh no, sorry Lisa”.  She had gone to get back into the wrong tent.  Poor Lisa had no idea who was coming in her tent and we all burst into laughter - it was the funniest thing.  Kim is such a great sport and by her own admission you only have to turn her around once and she is lost.

Off to sleep now after another big day.
Until Tomorrow,

Donna xx
